The Brain Bee is the world’s leading neuroscience competition for high school students, inspiring thousands every year to explore the mysteries of the brain and pursue careers in science and medicine.
The International Brain Bee was founded in 1998 by Dr. Norbert Myslinski with a mission to build better brains to fight brain disorders. Since its inception, the International Brain Bee has inspired thousands of students to study and pursue careers in neuroscience. The International Brain Bee promotes student engagement with neuroscience through a three-tiered competition: students start by signing up for a Local Brain Bee, the winners of which compete in their country’s National Brain Bee. Every year, National Brain Bees send one representative to compete at the IBB World Championship.
Our mission is to train, support, and lead students from across Georgia, preparing them to excel at the global Brain Bee competition. We are dedicated to motivating young minds to learn about the brain, inspiring them to pursue rewarding careers in neuroscience, and empowering them to contribute to the fight against brain disorders. Through local and national competitions, we provide high school students with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement they need to succeed on the world stage and become the next generation of neuroscience leaders.
Ready to showcase your neuroscience knowledge and represent Georgia on the world stage? Here’s how you can get started:
Students aged 13 to 19 who are enrolled in an accredited high school in Georgia can join the Georgia Brain Bee by first competing in a local Brain Bee event, held each spring throughout the state; winners from these local competitions advance to the Georgia National Brain Bee Championship, and the state champion will go on to represent Georgia at the International Brain Bee World Championship. Each student can participate in only one local Brain Bee per year and may only compete at the state and world championships once.
Take the first step—join your local Brain Bee, compete in the Georgia National Championship, and you could represent Georgia on the international stage!
The 2025 Georgia Brain Bee exam consists of several challenging rounds. Rounds 1 and 2 together include 100 questions, each worth one point. In Round 1, participants tackle 100 questions focused on basic neuroscience concepts, assessing their foundational understanding of the field. Round 2 follows with another 100 questions, this time centered on clinical neuroscience, including neuroanatomy, neurohistology, diagnosis of neurological disorders, clinical case interpretation, and scientific reasoning.
The top 10–15 students who perform best across both rounds will be invited to participate in an intensive Neuroscience Training School. After completing this training program, these top qualifiers will take a national exam, the winner of which will earn the opportunity to represent Georgia at the International Brain Bee Championship.
