Ines El Bini Dhouib, Ph.D.

Position: Collaborating Faculty

Dr. Ines El Bini Dhouib is an Assistant Professor of Physiology at the Pasteur Institute of Tunisia, a role she has excelled in since 2017. She holds a doctoral degree in Biological Sciences from the Faculty of Science at the University of Tunis, earned in 2015, which laid the foundation for her impressive academic and research career.

Dr. El Bini is deeply involved in both teaching and cutting-edge research, with a particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases. Her work centers on unraveling the complex mechanisms behind conditions such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of identifying potential therapeutic targets. Her research aims to deepen the understanding of these conditions’ pathophysiology, bringing the scientific community closer to developing effective treatments. A particularly innovative aspect of Dr. El Bini’s research is her investigation into the neuroprotective potential of natural compounds, such as animal venoms and plant extracts. Her studies explore how these substances may offer novel solutions for addressing neurodegeneration, potentially leading to breakthrough therapies. Additionally, her research is advancing the understanding of the role ion channels play in neuroprotection. By examining the intricate relationships between ion channels and neurodegenerative processes, Dr. El Bini seeks to uncover new mechanisms that could be targeted for therapeutic interventions. Her work has been widely recognized, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications to her name and an h-index of 20. She has also secured numerous research grants from prestigious organizations, including the Excellence in Africa Initiative at EPFL, IBRO, and the Pasteur International Network.
